What did the final shot mean, heaven or metaphor for his peace?

I just finished watching the movie and I’m still stuck on the final shot of the protagonist walking into the light. Was that meant to be him literally ascending to heaven, or was it a more metaphorical suggestion that he’d finally found peace? I can’t decide if the director was going for something spiritual or just a visual metaphor for his personal closure.

I read it as closure, not a literal ascent. The light and the fade felt like he finally letting go, not a passport to somewhere else.

Could be both—the film leans into a spiritual vibe, but the shot also works as a metaphor for peace after hope and fear.

Do you think the director actually intended to show heaven, or is it just a fade to white used to signal ending?

Watching with a friend, we whispered about the score and the pacing; it made me wonder if the real problem was him finding peace or us wanting a final sign.
