What do you think about songs in 6/8 time that lean into triplets?

I just realized my favorite band's new album is almost entirely in 6/8 time. I love the songs, but I'm finding the constant triplet feel a bit monotonous on repeat listens. Does anyone else ever get thrown off when an artist leans really hard into one specific time signature like this?

Yeah, that hits me too. When a record sticks to one groove the whole time, that triplet feel can start to feel endless. I tried not tracking the meter so tightly and just rode the melodies, and that helped a bit. I even flipped the headphones and tapped the beat with my off hand to shake my ear loose from the groove, and it revealed small phrasing shifts I’d been missing.

I actually tried muting the right channel for a bit to hear the bass and drums clearly. It showed a few spots where the rhythm loosened up and saved some tracks for me, at least for a listen.

Is it possible the issue isn’t the meter but the texture around it—how often a chorus lands on the same vocal hook over the same groove?

I keep a quick note on my phone about when a section finally breaks out of the groove. Sometimes it’s just a tiny shift in harmony or a fill, but it helps me stay curious instead of bored, at least for a few songs.
