What does a borderline ldl with good hdl mean for my cholesterol?

I just got my annual physical results back and my doctor noted my LDL cholesterol is borderline high, but my HDL is good. I'm a bit confused because my total cholesterol number looks okay on its own. I'm wondering if I should be more concerned about the specific breakdown than the overall figure.

That sounds familiar. I had a similar vibe last year—the total looked okay but the breakdown felt more real to me. I asked my doctor and we focused on the LDL part. I started swapping in more fiber, cut back on fried stuff, and watched the numbers every few months. They moved slowly, but the trend felt steadier than the overall number suggested.

I wonder if chasing the numbers this way is making me more anxious. Do you think the breakdown matters more than the total? I kept getting told not to overthink one figure, but then the doctors referenced the split when weighing risk. I’m still not sure what the real problem is.

Honestly I tried a few things and one stuck: a 20-30 minute walk most days and swapping out snacks for fruit. I didn't see a huge drop right away, but I did feel a bit better, slept better maybe. The change felt small but real in how I felt.

Sometimes I worry maybe the focus is off. I drifted into other things like sleep quality and stress, and after a couple of months the numbers looked less dramatic, but I can't pin it to one change. It makes me wonder if the problem is really the numbers or something else.
