What does a dark wavy line in my side vision mean, should i get a retina check?
#1
I’ve noticed a persistent dark, wavy line in the very edge of my side vision, almost like a smudge on glasses that won’t wipe away. It’s most obvious when I look at a bright, plain background like a white wall or the sky. My optometrist mentioned it could be related to the vitreous humor, but I’m not sure if this is something I should push for a more thorough retinal exam over.

I’ve had something like that too, a dark wavy line at the very edge of my vision that clung there, especially against bright backgrounds. It would move a bit when I looked around. It was annoying but not painful.

If it's persistent and you can't shake it, I’d push for a thorough retinal check rather than a quick glance. A dilated exam can reveal issues the regular vision test misses.

Could be glare or something off with the lighting. Sometimes I tell myself it’s nothing, and then it sticks around, which makes me doubt what I’m seeing.

Last time this happened I started noting when it showed up and whether I saw any flashes or a curtain. I still asked for a follow up with my eye doc even though nothing dramatic happened.
