What does a fixed dark spot in central vision mean for a possible macular hole?
#1
I’ve been noticing a persistent, small dark spot in the central vision of my right eye for about a week now. It doesn’t float around like a floater, it’s just fixed there, and it makes reading text on that side a bit blurry. I’m worried this could be a sign of a macular hole starting.

I’ve had a thing like that before — a fixed dark spot in the center for about a week. It wasn’t a float or anything moving, and reading on that side got a bit blurry. I booked an eye clinic visit and they did a thorough exam with my pupils dilated. They said it wasn’t an acute detachment, just something to watch. It eased after a couple of weeks but the memory sticks around.

It’s hard not to worry, but I remember testing things at home like closing one eye and looking at small print, taking more breaks, and trying to keep calm. Sometimes stress or tired eyes make me notice changes more than there really are. The patch stayed fixed though and I kept notes for the visit.

That could be a macular hole which is scary to think about. If it is, the sooner you are checked the better.

Have you noticed any flashes, a veil, or sudden vision loss?
