I’ve been dealing with persistent bloating and irregular bowel movements for months now, and my doctor just mentioned the possibility of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. I’m a bit confused because my symptoms don’t seem as severe as some descriptions I’ve read, but the breath test he ordered is coming up. Has anyone else had a similar experience where their SIBO presentation felt kind of mild or ambiguous?

I had a few months of bloating and weird timing with bathroom trips too, but nothing dramatic. When my breath test finally happened it felt oddly reassuring to have something concrete to point at.

My symptoms were mostly mild gas and occasional constipation or loose days. It wasn’t the classic picture you read about, but the test still flagged something SIBOish for me.

I worried it was IBS or a motility thing, and the doctor said breath tests aren’t perfect but can fit with symptoms. It was confusing more than conclusive.

I tried a low FODMAP ish approach for a few weeks and some days felt better, other days not much changed. Still not sure if that was targeting SIBO or just gut irritability.

Waiting for the result felt tense, like any moment you’ll hear something definitive, but then it’s just another data point.

Do you think the whole thing might be something else entirely like slow transit or a food intolerance, and SIBO is just a label we grab onto because the tests exist?
