What does inside out 2's box office mean for family films?

I just saw the final domestic total for *Inside Out 2* and it’s completely shattered my understanding of what an animated film can earn here. I always figured the ceiling was around what the first one made, but this new number has me wondering if we’re looking at a permanent shift in the potential for family films at the box office.

That number surprised me too. I was sure the first film set a ceiling, but Inside Out 2 blew past it and made me rethink what a family film can pull domestically.

I pulled a quick chart last night comparing similar animated sequels. This one showed a much bigger domestic haul than I expected, which nudges me toward thinking the ceiling might be higher than we assumed.

Maybe the real issue isn’t demand or quality. It could be timing, marketing, or the mix of holidays and school breaks. Either way I’m not confident we know what’s driving this.

Part of me keeps drifting to streaming windows and ancillary revenue, but I’m still trying to figure out if this is a one off or a real shift. Do you think this is a temporary blip or a lasting trend?
