What does lattice degeneration mean for eye floaters?
#1
I’ve noticed a persistent dark, wavy line in the very edge of my peripheral vision in my right eye, almost like a smudge on a camera lens that moves when I look around. My optometrist saw some lattice degeneration during my last exam and mentioned it could be related, but I’m not sure if this specific floater-like shadow is a normal part of that or something I should be more concerned about.

I’ve had something similar after a check that mentioned lattice degeneration. There was a dark wavy line along the edge that moved as I looked around. It felt a lot like a floater caused by the vitreous tugging on the retina. It wasn’t constant, but I kept noticing it for weeks until I followed up with my doctor.

With that condition, any new shadow near the edge should be checked, ideally with a dilated retina exam. If it suddenly flashes, a curtain comes across your vision, or you lose part of your sight, go to urgent care.

Did your doctor give you a plan for follow up or any specific warning signs to watch for?

Sometimes I wonder if it’s just aging floaters or that thinning retina thing you were told about. I tried ignoring it for a while, tracked when it showed up, but it didn’t really go away. Either way, getting a follow-up seems wise, especially since you already have that note from your exam.
