What does this satellite ice shelf collapse mean for near-term sea level rise?

I just saw the news about the new satellite data showing the ice shelf collapse. I’m trying to understand what this actually means for near-term sea level projections, but the reports are so technical.

I saw the headlines and the satellite shots of the shelf breaking up and it felt alarming but the math behind it is still unsettled. In plain terms it nudges the risk up slowly but near term numbers have a big range and a lot of caveats

From the ground it seems the near term impact on sea level would be small a single event may add a little to the total over years not days but the big question is what happens next I kept thinking about a map I saw in a cafe and how the coastline moves slowly

Is the shelf collapse the real problem or are we chasing upstream changes?

I work in coastal planning and we added the new numbers to our sheet then decided to wait for the next forecast before changing plans The tone in the room was cautious and a bit frustrated
