What else helps with eustachian tube dysfunction and muffled hearing?

I’ve been dealing with a constant feeling of pressure and muffled hearing in my right ear for about three weeks now. My doctor mentioned it might be related to eustachian tube dysfunction, but the standard decongestants haven’t given me any relief at all.

That three week stretch with pressure and muffled hearing sounds rough. If a doctor mentioned eustachian tube dysfunction that could fit, but decongestants not helping is incredibly frustrating. If you start to notice sudden hearing loss, severe dizziness, fever, or drainage, go back to urgent care. It might be worth getting an ear exam and possibly a hearing test to check the middle ear.

I’ve tried humidifier every night and saline spray, plus a two week course of a nasal spray as my doctor asked. Nothing changed. I kept doing the swallow-yawn-chew trick and even gentle Valsalva a few times, but it stayed the same. It’s exhausting to monitor and not know what’s real.

I keep wondering if maybe a wax buildup is the culprit. I asked for a quick look and was told it didn’t look obvious, but I didn’t press. I’m wary of digging around my own ear. A real exam by a pro might see something a quick look misses.

Could be allergies or a chronic fluid thing in the ear. My doctor suggested an audiogram and tympanometry to map the middle ear pressure, but that took a few weeks to schedule. I ended up chasing tests more than relief, which felt wrong.

I had something similar last year and it slowly eased up after a month or two. No magic fix, just time and patience. Still worry about it returning, but I’m not chasing it now.

Did your doctor actually run a hearing test today or just tweak meds again?
