What explains this blockbuster's weak box-office opening: fatigue or reviews?

I just saw that the new superhero movie opened to a $52 million domestic weekend. That seems really low for a franchise this big, especially with the marketing push it had. I’m trying to figure out if this is just a sign of audience fatigue for this particular series, or if the poor critical scores actually had that much of a direct impact on its opening numbers.

I’ve watched a few big sequels open around 52 million and it often means the hype outran the movie. The crowd I sat with barely clapped at the end; that sort of quiet tells me the core fans weren’t all in. Could be fatigue, could be the film not delivering after all that marketing.

The reviews felt middling and I heard people saying they’d wait for streaming. Marketing was loud for weeks, but word of mouth didn’t give it wings.

Maybe the bigger factor isn’t fatigue or reviews but the calendar. A crowded weekend, other big releases, price sensitivity. Is timing the real problem here?

I checked chats at the lobby after the show and the vibe was mixed. Diehards were lukewarm, casuals weren’t convinced, and a bunch of people said they’d rather wait to see it cheaper or on streaming.
