What family-friendly shows are good to watch together with kids?

I’ve been trying to find a good show to watch with my family, but everything seems to have a few scenes that are too intense for my younger kids. I feel like I spend more time previewing episodes than actually watching anything. How do other people handle this when they just want to relax and stream something together?

We go by ratings and a quick scan of the opening scene. If the first five minutes have a jump scare or heavy violence, we skip. Then we pick two kid friendly options and let the kids vote on one.

I’ve started leaning into light comedies or animated shows. If it’s cheerful and short, we can usually finish a couple episodes in a row and actually relax.

We once tried previewing the first 10 minutes of each candidate and rating them on a shared board. It slowed us down and we abandoned it, but it did reveal the kind of pacing we dislike.
