What film score has a mournful cello solo that's hard to identify?

I’ve been trying to find a specific piece of music from a film for weeks, but I only remember the melody and that it had a prominent, mournful cello solo. I’ve hummed it to every app and friend I can think of, and nobody can place it. Has anyone else ever been completely stuck trying to identify a score just from an instrumental fragment in their head?

Yep. I spent months chasing a mournful cello moment from a film. Hummed it into five apps, asked friends, even posted on a music forum. People heard a lot of sad cello, but nothing matched. It felt impossible until I started doubting whether I remembered it right. Still not sure if it's even in the film I think it is.

I once thought I heard a similar line, but after digging I realized it wasn't from a movie at all, but a modern chamber piece. I spent a weekend comparing the scene to different pieces online and checking credits, but nothing lined up.

I did a practical thing: I pulled the cello solo from the scene, looped it, and asked a local musician friend to transcribe a rough motif. They came back with a guess that was close but not exact. I then cross-checked with the film's soundtrack notes; nothing.

Do you ever wonder if the problem is not the music itself but memory? Sometimes the scene's mood, reverb, and pacing sticks in your head and you misremember the exact tune.
