I just finished watching The Prestige for the first time and I’m stuck on the very last shot with all the top hats. I think I understand the twin reveal, but that final image has me second-guessing everything. Was there a real transported man or was it all just the sacrifice?

I left thinking about those hats like a quiet chorus. The last shot feels heavier than the reveals. If the transport happened it is a mark of both magic and a crime. If not, maybe the real trick is what the sacrifice did to the people who stay behind. It keeps nagging me.

I watched The Prestige twice and still felt unsure. The twin reveals land cleanly, but the corner of the frame where the hats settle gives me a slow unsettled feeling.

I am not sure there is a single answer. The film loves questions more than conclusions and the last image sits in your brain the way a failed stunt lingers.

Was there really a transported man or is it all the sacrifice?
