What helped you get past the setup in Cosmic Colonies?

I finally got a copy of the new "Cosmic Colonies" board game and was so excited to play it last weekend. But when we opened the box, the sheer number of tiny resource tokens and the three-page turn structure reference sheet just made everyone’s eyes glaze over. Has anyone else faced this wall of complexity with a game they were really looking forward to? I’m worried my regular game group might not want to try it again.

Yep, I hit that wall too. The tokens looked amazing, but we stalled staring at the reference sheet. We dumped a few tokens into a tray, skimmed the pages, and still felt like we were back in school.

We did try a lite setup for Cosmic Colonies with only part of the board and a pared down turn sequence, and it went from a slog to something we could finish in an evening, even if it wasn’t the same rush.

I keep thinking maybe the issue isn’t just rules but pacing; one person spends ages reading and the rest drift, and suddenly it’s not fun.

One question for you: is the wall of complexity really the problem, or is it signaling a mismatch with your group’s vibe?
