What helps ear pressure and muffled hearing from eustachian tube dysfunction?

I’ve been dealing with this persistent feeling of pressure and muffled hearing in my right ear for about three weeks now. My doctor mentioned it might be related to eustachian tube dysfunction, but the standard decongestants haven’t really changed anything.

That sounds rough. Three weeks with muffled hearing in one ear isn’t something to shrug off. I had something similar after a cold and it lingered for about two weeks before easing. I noticed it more in quiet rooms and I tried sleeping with my head propped up a bit and avoiding really loud places. It still felt odd for a while but slowly got better.

From what you’re describing, a consult with an ENT or audiologist might be worth it if the decongestants aren’t helping. They can check for fluid behind the eardrum or a blockage in the Eustachian tube and may do a quick hearing test. Nothing dramatic, just a check to rule out something that needs different treatment.

I keep wondering if it could be something like ear wax or a pressure issue from changes in humidity or air travel. It’s easy to fixate on ETD, but three weeks should have shown at least a hint of improvement. Still, I’m not sure that’s the real story.

Could this be the real problem, or is there something else going on? I’m hesitant to jump to conclusions, but three weeks with that sensation makes me worry about hearing changes.
