What helps make my timeline less draining when the algorithm is noisy?

I've been using dating apps for about a year now, and I'm getting frustrated with how superficial everything feels. I'm looking for online dating advice that actually helps create meaningful connections rather than just endless swiping.

Some things I've tried: being more specific in my profile about what I'm looking for, asking better questions in early conversations, and suggesting video calls before meeting in person to see if there's real chemistry.

What online dating advice have you found actually works? I'm tired of the generic "be yourself" advice and looking for more specific strategies for finding genuine connections in the digital dating world.

I’ve been trying to cut back on my screen time, but every time I mute or unfollow someone for being too negative, my feed just seems to fill up with something else that’s just as draining. It feels like the algorithm is actively working against my mood. Has anyone else found a way to actually make their timeline a less exhausting place?

I tried muting a few people and unfollowing some, but the feed still felt heavy. I started a tiny routine: 1) open, 2) scan for 30 seconds, 3) close the app and do something offline for 20 minutes. The next day the pile-up seemed smaller.

I set a 15 minute timer for social scrolling and stop when it rings, then I go for a walk or grab water.

Maybe the issue is the habit more than the people. I tried replacing doomscroll with a quick photo project—five minutes to dump a few photos into a notebook file. It helps sometimes.

The algorithm seems to fill gaps with similar vibes, so muting topics helped a bit but not a fix.

I started keeping a 'good vibes' list of accounts I actually enjoy, and when the feed drifts I click that instead.

One time I drifted into auto-play land and came out frazzled; I turned off auto-play permanently, even if it meant longer loading times.

Is the real problem the itch to check in, or the feed itself?
