What helps with a lingering post-viral cough after a cold?
#1
I’ve been dealing with a persistent, dry cough for about three weeks now and my doctor mentioned it could be a type of post-viral bronchial hyperreactivity. I’m just wondering if anyone else has experienced this specific issue lingering long after the initial cold was gone, and what that actually felt like for you.

i had a dry cough that stuck around after a cold and it felt like a constant scratch in the throat with a tickle in the chest especially at night I kept coughing for stretches then it would ease and come back My doctor called it post viral bronchial hyperreactivity and it did not scare me just wore me out I tried a humidifier warm tea and throat lozenges and that helped a little but not a fix

i keep wondering if this is really the thing or something else These days it seems like many of us end up with lingering coughs that may be allergies air quality or reflux It says post viral but maybe it is just a dry air season Here you are not alone

i am trying to answer with my own limited experience It is a slow burn not a sharp attack and i did not find a single switch that fixed it Moments when i sat in steam or had a warm drink helped a bit but none of it felt decisive I kept notes on the days it started to ease but there was no clear turning point

one more thing that sometimes helps me is paying attention to night time breathing and posture When i breathed shallowly the cough got worse so i tried slower breaths and a calmer routine before sleep It did not cure it but it kept me from panicking when it flared and i still kept going to work
