What helps with accommodative insufficiency and eye strain during close work?
#1
I’ve noticed my vision gets blurry and my eyes feel strained about an hour into reading or working on the computer, but it clears up after I look away for a while. My optometrist mentioned it could be related to my eyes having trouble focusing up close, a condition called accommodative insufficiency.

I get that blur after an hour too. I started using bigger text and took tiny breaks every 15 minutes, and the blur would fade when I looked at something farther away.

I tried wearing reading glasses at work for a week and stuck to 25 minute blocks with quick, deliberate breaks; the fatigue still shows up in the late afternoon.

Could this be more than strain?

Accommodative insufficiency sounds plausible, but day to day it’s hard to pin down what that means without tests.

I asked my optometrist about lenses for close work, and they suggested a few exercises, but I didn’t notice a clear win.

Sometimes I wonder if the real issue is how I’m sitting or the lighting, and not my eyes alone.
