What helps with antibiotic nausea while staying on the full course?
#1
I’ve been prescribed a course of antibiotics for a stubborn sinus infection, but I’m really struggling with the nausea it’s causing. I’m trying to take it with food as directed, but even that isn’t helping much, and I’m worried about not being able to finish the full course because of this. Has anyone else found a reliable way to manage this side effect without interfering with the medication’s absorption?

I’ve been there. The nausea hit me hardest when I took the pill on an empty stomach, so I started taking it with a small snack and a full glass of water, then sat up for a bit afterward. I kept it light—crackers or a banana—nothing greasy. It helped enough that I could keep going, but it still wasn’t perfect. I kept a simple log of meals around dosing to see what helped.

I tried different snacks—crackers, toast, a little yogurt—some days it helped, some days not so much. I avoided fatty meals around dose times because they made the nausea worse for me. Hydration mattered too; sipping water between pills.

Do you think the problem might be dehydration or stress or something else causing the nausea, rather than the pill itself? It felt like it came and went with how I slept or drank water.

I asked the doctor and pharmacist, and we talked about options. In one case they suggested an anti nausea med to take with the antibiotic, or switching to a different antibiotic if the side effects were too much. I didn’t finish the course before switching, and that was frustrating but they encouraged keeping the conversation going.
