What is a normal fuel economy for my sedan in suburban stop-and-go driving?

As a first-time parent with a 6-month-old, I'm overwhelmed by all the parenting advice for new parents out there. Some of it contradicts other advice, and I'm not sure what to trust.

What parenting tips have you found most valuable during that first year? I'm looking for practical parenting hacks that actually make life easier, not just theoretical advice. What child behavior tips worked for you when everything felt like trial and error?

I've been reading parenting blog 2025 articles and following family life blog recommendations, but I'd love to hear real experiences. What parenting mistakes to avoid did you learn the hard way? What positive parenting tips helped you build confidence during those early months?

The parenting advice for new parents that I found most valuable was you know your baby better than any book." Trust your instincts alongside the expert advice.

One parenting hack that saved us in the first year was keeping a simple log of feeding and sleeping patterns. It helped us see patterns we were too tired to notice. Those practical parenting tips make more difference than theoretical advice sometimes.

From a child development perspective, the most important positive parenting tips for the first year focus on responsive caregiving. Answering cries promptly, lots of face-to-face interaction, and talking to your baby even though they can't talk back.

Those early interactions build neural connections that support all future development. The parenting mistakes to avoid usually involve either overstimulation or understimulation finding the right balance is key.

I’ve been tracking my fuel consumption for the past six months and I’m still not sure what’s considered normal for my daily commute. My 2018 sedan shows an average of 8.9 L/100km with mostly suburban driving and a bit of stop-and-go traffic, but I have no idea if that’s good, bad, or just average for these conditions.

That 8.9 L/100km number is reasonable for a suburban to stop-and-go commute in a 2018 sedan.

In a similar setup I hovered around 9 to 10 for months, and it didn’t budge much unless I changed something big.

I tried keeping steady speeds and light throttle for a week, but the change was tiny.

Do you think the problem is the reading or the driving pattern, or something else?

Winter and cold starts really shook the numbers; on cold mornings my car drank more before it warmed up.

Eventually I focused on maintenance like replacing the air filter and keeping tires up to pressure, and the gains were real but modest.
