What is recovery like after each bronchial thermoplasty session?
#1
I’ve been diagnosed with moderate persistent asthma, and my pulmonologist mentioned I might be a candidate for bronchial thermoplasty. The idea of having heat applied to the airways during a bronchoscopy makes me nervous, and I’m wondering if anyone here has gone through the full series of three procedures. I’m trying to understand what the recovery was like after each session and if you felt the long-term reduction in severe attacks was worth it.

I looked into it a couple years ago after my diagnosis. The first session left me with a sore throat and chest tightness for about a week, then I started to feel steadier. The second session hit harder—more fatigue and a few rough days. By the third, I was used to the rhythm and it felt a bit less frightening, but not painless.

I kept notes on rescue inhaler use and night awakenings. There was a small drop for a few months after finishing all three sessions, but it didn’t erase the triggers. When life got busy or allergens spiked, the same old patterns came back. Could there be something else going on?

I understand the nerves. The idea of heat in the airways is unsettling. Recovery days are real, and you have to plan around work or family. I felt mixed: relief at times, and doubt at others.

A friend went through three rounds of bronchial thermoplasty and said the first night after the bronchoscopy was rough, but gradually things improved. They described fewer severe attacks for a while, though not forever, and they still managed triggers the same way.
