What is the best Chrono Trigger version to own today, SNES cart or PS1 port?

I’m trying to figure out which version of Chrono Trigger is the best to actually own and play today. I have the original SNES cart, but playing it on a modern TV is a hassle, and I’ve heard the PS1 port has those awful load times.

I ended up sticking with the Steam PC version. It runs smoothly on a modern TV, you can use a controller, and you can tweak the resolution. It’s not expensive and it preserves the mood.

The PS1 port is a slog with the load times. The core game is the same, but you spend a lot of time waiting between areas.

The DS and 3DS versions add extra content and sometimes smoother pacing, but they feel like handheld editions. If you want a TV setup, you’ll want to emulate or use the PC/Steam version.

If you want the closest 'authentic' vibe, the SNES cart on a CRT is the charm, but on a modern TV the lag and scaling take away a chunk of it. An HDMI upscaler or a CRT actually helps, but it’s not plug-and-play.

One quick question, are you chasing true authenticity or just a smooth, playable experience on a big screen?
