I'm trying to settle a debate with my friend about the best movie trilogy of all time. I say the original Star Wars, but he's adamant that The Lord of the Rings is the definitive three-part series, especially because of its consistent quality across all three films.

I did try a small test once: watched each trilogy with a timer, noted when I skipped scenes. Star Wars had more moments I revisited while LOTR flowed almost linearly the whole way. It wasn’t definitive, just a rough gut read.
