What is the best resolution for an RTX 4070: 1440p or 4K?

I’m trying to decide between a 1440p and a 4K monitor for my new setup, but I’m worried my RTX 4070 won’t be enough to drive the higher resolution smoothly in newer games without turning settings down too far. Has anyone made this jump recently and noticed a real difference in performance hit versus visual clarity?

I moved from 1440p to 4K with my RTX 4070 and yeah the sharpness is real. Text is crisper, distant textures look better, and the sense of scale in new games is noticeable. I had to dial RT and some reflections down a notch to keep it smooth, though.

I did the jump last month and found the hit wasn’t dramatic in most games if you’re willing to drop a few settings or lean on upscaling tricks. A few titles still felt pretty solid at 4K once you tweak things.

Is the problem maybe the monitor size or the distance you sit from it? A 27 inch 4K feels amazing from a couple of meters away, but up close it can look similar to 1440p if you’re cramped in.

I tried it, and the difference in motion and glow was real in some scenes, but after a while I started wondering whether the extra crispness mattered enough to chase it. I didn’t push it to the limit and I moved on to other tweaks instead.
