What is the name of the Psycho shower scene string motif?

I'm trying to cook more seasonally but I often default to the same ingredients year-round. What are your favorite seasonal recipes for this time of year?

I'm looking for recipes that really highlight what's in season now, whether that's specific vegetables, fruits, or other ingredients. What seasonal recipes get you excited about cooking with what's fresh and local? Also curious about food presentation tips for making seasonal dishes look beautiful.

I’ve been trying to find the name of that really tense, repeating string piece from the shower scene in Psycho for ages. I know it’s iconic, but every time I search for “scary violin music” or “Hitchcock strings” I just get generic playlists instead of that specific, sharp composition.

That cue is from Bernard Herrmann's score for Psycho.

I spent hours trying to google it, typing shower scene string, violin screech, high pitched threat, and kept ending up on generic playlists.

Another angle I tried was looking at the album notes, sometimes the track is listed as The Shower Scene or The Murder, which isn't consistent across releases.

I think you might be chasing a label more than the sound, the sound itself is what sticks, those screeching strings build tension even in silence.

I did find a forum post where someone said the track isn't really a standalone piece, it's a cue from the larger score.

Maybe the problem is the mix on streaming platforms, the higher frequencies get boosted and it feels sharper than in the film.

Could you post a link to a clip you have in mind I might recognize it by the moment even if I can't name it?
