What is the trick to beating the final gate in the rotating gears puzzle?

I keep getting stuck on the same level of this puzzle game, the one with the rotating gears and the colored keys. I’ve tried every combination I can think of, but I just can’t get the last gate to open. Has anyone else hit this wall and figured out the trick?

Oh yeah I hit that wall too. I finally got past it after I stopped chasing color math and started paying attention to the gear clicks. One precise click right when the light flashed did the trick.

I actually kept a little log rotations versus colors. It kept giving me the same dead end when I landed on the same color twice. I tried skipping repeats and it opened on the next attempt.

Do you think the gates reset if you rotate too quickly or is there a hidden state that sticks around?

I took a break came back with coffee and somehow it felt easier after I stopped staring at the wheel. Maybe it was just me loosening up.
