What makes the Road House remake stand on its own without the original camp?

I just watched the new Road House, and I’m left wondering if a remake can ever truly stand alone when the original has such a specific, iconic feel. This one felt slick and serious, but I miss the campy, over-the-top charm that made the 1989 version so memorable.

Yeah, I felt that. The original Road House had that sweaty neon, tongue-in-cheek grit that could be goofy and somehow earned it. The remake looks slick and serious, but it misses that unhinged charm.

I watched it with a friend and we kept pausing to talk about the fight choreography and the score. The sound design is louder, but the campy sparks never caught fire.

Is the real issue the tone, or is something else off like pacing or character choices?

I tried to give it a fair shake, but left thinking maybe a remake needs a new angle instead of chasing the past. Not sure I’m convinced either way.
