What note-taking app syncs between Windows and Android without mangling text?

I’ve been trying to find a good note-taking app that syncs perfectly between my Windows laptop and Android phone, but everything I try seems to have one deal-breaking flaw. I just need something reliable for plain text and maybe basic checklists, but the sync either fails or the formatting gets mangled.

I tried Joplin for Windows and Android. It did okay with plain notes and small checklists once I connected WebDAV. The big thing I noticed was how long it took to propagate changes—usually a couple minutes—so not instant, but workable if I save and wait.

I ended up using a plain text file in a sync folder and a tiny checklist in there too. It was boring but reliably boring until the cloud hiccup one afternoon where a bullet disappeared and I couldn’t recover it.

Are you sure the problem isn't the cloud service itself?

I kept chasing apps and then drifted into annotating a note about file naming schemes in a side project, which felt like a detour. Still, the core issue stays: I want plain text that stays intact across devices without mangling, and I haven’t found a setup that feels sturdy yet.
