What other movie sequels actually beat the original?

I keep trying to make a definitive list of the best movie sequels that are actually better than the original, but I get stuck after *The Empire Strikes Back* and *The Godfather Part II*. What other sequels truly clear that incredibly high bar? I feel like there are a few obvious ones I'm just blanking on.

Aliens was the one that stood out after Empire and Godfather Part II for me. It keeps the same world but doubles down on the tension and the practical effects still land hard, which makes it feel earned and risky.
