What pattern in short-form videos helps sustain reach?

I’ve been trying to build a consistent audience by posting short-form videos, but I’m hitting a wall where my views just plateau after the first hour. I’m not sure if my hooks are weak or if the algorithm just isn’t picking it up, and I’m curious if others have found a specific pattern in their content that triggers more sustained reach.

Yeah I chased the same thing last year. I found my retention tells me more than view count. I started testing hooks with the first frame as a promise and then a quick payoff at the end. A few clips pop, but most plateau after an hour. I logged watch time, saves, shares for a month and still saw churn. I think consistency helps, but the algorithm maybe rewards series or binge-worthy hooks.

I tried posting at different times, changed lengths from 12 to 40 seconds, swapped music and on-screen text. Nothing dramatic, some tiny bumps here and there. It felt like I was chasing a moving target. I did one experiment where I dropped a CTA to watch the next video and the next one did slightly better, but not enough to call it a pattern.

I kept a calendar, posted daily for two weeks, then cooled off for a week. The numbers looked similar to before. I did a 'myth-busting' clip about common mistakes in my niche and got a little more engagement, but the next five it went back to baseline. I started to wonder if the topic itself isn't sticky enough for a broad audience.

Do you think the real issue is who I’m reaching rather than how the feed treats my clips? I worry maybe I’m off-target and the algorithm never champions the kind of small, gradual growth I’m after.
