What questions should I ask about sacroiliac joint pain in my lower back?
#1
I’ve been having this strange, deep ache in my lower back for weeks now, and my doctor mentioned it could be related to the sacroiliac joint. It’s worse when I get up from sitting or roll over in bed, but I’m not sure what to make of that or what I should even be asking about next.

I had something like this once, thought it was a sacroiliac joint issue. It started as a dull ache in the lower back that showed up when I stood up or rolled over in bed. Heat helped a little and a few gentle stretches gave brief relief, but I wasn’t sure what caused it.

I tried sleeping with a firmer mattress and avoiding awkward twists for a couple weeks, and that helped a bit. I kept a log of when the pain flared and what movements hurt the most, which was eye-opening even if it didn’t fix it right away.

A physical therapist gave me a handful of easy moves—pelvic tilts, knee-to-chest on the opposite side, some light hip circles. They helped some days but not others, and the ache would come back after a long day at work or after lifting groceries.

Do you think this could be something else entirely, and how would you tell?
