What quick technique helps me wake up and get out of bed on the first ring?

I've been trying to get up at 5:30 AM consistently, but my biggest hurdle is that groggy, half-asleep feeling where I just shut off the alarm without really deciding to. Has anyone found a specific, immediate action that helps you become fully conscious and committed to getting out of bed in that first critical minute?

That first minute is a blur, but one tiny ritual helped a little. When the beep hits, I sit up already deciding I won’t drift back. I swing my legs over, splash cold water on my face, and count to three before I stand. It buys me a beat to choose action instead of sinking back. It’s not magical, just enough to break the fog and keep moving.

I tried a vibrating pad that woke me up, and a backup beep elsewhere, but I still rolled over. The fog hit after the first minute and I gave up mid-stumble.

Maybe the real problem isn’t the wake-up moment but sleep quality—could that be it? I’ve tried earlier bedtimes and dim lights, and the grogginess still sticks.

Not sure this helps, but I started telling myself I’ll get coffee for a friend as soon as I’m upright. It sounds silly, but that social nudge pulled me out of bed a few mornings before I talked myself back to sleep. Then I dropped it when I got busy, so now I’m back to square one.
