What real-world speed improvements should I expect from Snapdragon X Elite?
#1
I just got my hands on the new Snapdragon X Elite laptop and the raw benchmark scores are incredible, but I’m honestly not feeling that real-world speed bump in my daily workflow yet. Maybe my expectations were too high, or I’m just not pushing it with the right applications to see that generational leap.

Yeah I get the hype. I popped a few big Lightroom edits and a couple of Chrome tabs, and it felt snappy at first, but once I hit a slow IO task it didn’t wow me. Maybe the real gains show up with things compiled for ARM or with specific GPU accelerated apps.

I did a video export on the Snapdragon X Elite and a batch render in the same session, temps climbed into the high 80s and the fan noise got loud, and the export finished about the same as my old laptop for similar footage. Hard to call it a leap day to day.

Do you think the bottleneck is the software stack not optimized for ARM yet, or is the hardware just not the limiting factor in your workflows?

I started testing on battery with brightness up and the clock kept bouncing, which made me question the numbers. Still I keep coming back to the same thing: the real speed bump shows up when you push actual apps and data.
