What resolution should I pick: 1440p or 4K with RTX 4070?

I’m trying to decide between a 1440p and a 4K monitor for my new setup, but I’m worried my RTX 4070 won’t handle the higher resolution well in newer games. I see people hitting high frame rates at 1440p, but I’m not sure if pushing for that extra pixel density is worth the performance hit.

I did 1440p with my RTX 4070 for a while. In most new games I was sitting around the 100–140 fps ballpark on high settings, and DLSS gave me extra headroom when I did push to 4K.

I tried 4K on the same setup and yes the frames could dip, but enabling DLSS or using balanced presets usually kept things smooth enough for me to enjoy the visuals.

Is the real bottleneck maybe not the pixels but other parts like CPU speed or RAM? I kept wondering if my worries were overblown.

I also found the jump in desktop clarity was nice, but I kept hitting eye fatigue after long sessions, so I hesitated to go bigger again.
