What reusable option actually works for makeup removal in a zero-waste bathroom?
#1
I’ve been trying to switch to a zero-waste bathroom, but I’m really stuck on finding a good alternative to disposable cotton rounds for removing makeup. Everything I’ve tried either feels too rough or doesn’t actually take the makeup off properly. Has anyone else figured out a reusable option that actually works well for this?

I switched to reusable cloth pads and a balm cleanser. At first they felt rough, but after a wash they softened a lot. I keep a small mesh bag for laundry and wash them hot with a little detergent after I use them. They actually pick up makeup pretty well when I start with a balm or micellar water and finish with a quick swipe. I’ve had them for months and they’re still going.

I tried several brands of reusable pads and even some bamboo ones. The larger squares felt kinder on the skin, but makeup still needed a second pass, especially the stubborn stuff. I rotate a few in a small pile and wash them nightly, which is a bit of a ritual but keeps the trash down.

Could the real snag be the cleanser and technique rather than the pad itself?

I tried a cheap terry cloth option and a mild cleanser, and it felt a bit abrasive at first. It did cut waste, but I worried about residue and bacteria between uses, so I started washing them in hot water with a splash of vinegar now and then. Not perfect, but I keep at it because the trade-off feels worth it even if I’m not convinced it’s the best long-term plan.
