What rights do I have for a landlord's 24-hour inspection?
#1
I’m trying to figure out if my landlord can legally enter my apartment for a “general inspection” with only 24 hours notice. My lease mentions reasonable notice for repairs, but this feels different, like they just want to look around. I’m not sure what my rights are here regarding privacy and the required legal justification for entry.

In practice, most landlords can enter with 24 hours notice for non emergency things like repairs or safety checks, not just to wander around. The lease or local law usually requires a stated purpose and reasonable hours.

I once got a 24 hour notice for an inspection that felt vague. I asked for the exact purpose, the time window, and to be present, and I asked for a written checklist of what they’d review.

If your lease only mentions reasonable notice for repairs, a blanket general inspection to 'look around' could be questionable. It helps to ask for the specific purpose and to have the notice in writing.

I documented every notice and who came, and I kept the notices in a folder. It didn’t change the policy, but it did give me a reference if something seemed off.
