I’m trying to decide if it’s worth the effort to build a custom connector for our CRM to sync with our project management software, or if we should just stick with the manual export-import process we have now. The manual way is clunky and creates data lag, but I’m not sure the development time for a proper integration is justified for our team size.

We tried building a small connector for our CRM and PM tool last year. It took about two weeks of shared effort, and we had real-time data showing up in dashboards after go-live. Maintenance later was a drag when API changes rolled in.

We stuck with the manual export-import for now. It’s clunky and the data lag bugs me, but we don’t have a big enough team to own a longer build and ongoing upkeep.

A contractor did a minimal bridge between systems for a pilot. It shaved about an hour a day off manual updates, but it was brittle and needed someone keeping an eye on it.

Is the lag really the problem or is it people misusing the export? Maybe the bigger win is tightening the process or automating a subset of the steps first.

We hit authentication hurdles and rate limits during the build, so we paused and reevaluated scope. Might revisit if priorities shift.

My rough ROI check: if the connector saves 30 minutes per week for two people, that’s a small but real gain, but the initial time to build and maintain wasn't tiny either.

Sometimes I drift to arguing about data mapping in the middle of a sprint, then realize the real thing is whether the current setup actually delays decisions. Still, we left the project in limbo.
