What shoes go best with wide-leg trousers?

I just bought a pair of wide-leg trousers and I love the silhouette, but I'm really struggling with what shoes to wear with them. My usual ankle boots feel awkward and hidden, and my sneakers make the whole outfit look sloppy instead of intentional.

Try something with a clean line and a bit of height. A pointed-toe block-heel loafer or a sleek mule keeps the foot visible and balances the fabric. With wide legs, that balance makes the silhouette read intentional.

I know the feeling of a pant swallowing a boot. I swapped to a low-heeled slingback and the line improved, though it wasn't perfect. A simple ballet flat with a tiny heel or a curved-heel loafer helped me avoid that sloppy look.

I tested two options: crop the hem so the line sits just above the foot vs letting it skim. The cropped version looked sharper, particularly with a pointed toe profile. If you’d rather not alter the length, try a slim sandal in warm weather.

Are you aiming for a sleek leg line or a more casual vibe with those pants? I’m curious because that choice changes whether I’d reach for a sandal or a loafer.
