What should i check next to improve my sedan's mpg from 22 to 28?

I’m trying to figure out if my car’s fuel economy is normal or if something’s off. My 2018 sedan is only getting about 22 MPG in mixed driving, but everything I read says it should be closer to 28. I’ve checked tire pressure and I don’t have a heavy foot, so I’m not sure where to look next.

22 MPG while mixing city and highway isn’t crazy, but it does feel off for many 2018 sedans unless there’s a heavy load or cold weather. I’d double check quick things you can control: air filter condition, fuel cap sealing, and whether you’re dragging with roof racks or accessories.

Last winter I saw similar numbers until I swapped a clogged air filter and gave the throttle body a light clean. It bumped me into the mid 20s, not all the way to 28, but it helped.

If no obvious fixes help, a sensor issue could be lurking. A slow O2 sensor or a misfire can drag economy without throwing a check engine light. An OBD II scan can help.

Weather and trip style matter. Short trips, cold starts, and lots of AC can keep MPG down. If you’re doing mostly city commuting, a target in the low 20s isn’t shocking, even with otherwise healthy parts.

What does your daily drive look like and how many miles do you usually run before the engine warms up?
