What should i do about a low resting heart rate on beta blockers?
#1
I’ve been on a beta-blocker for my hypertension for about six months now, and I’ve noticed my resting heart rate has gotten quite low, sometimes dipping into the low 50s. My doctor says it’s an expected effect of the medication, but it still feels strange to see those numbers on my monitor, and I occasionally feel a bit more fatigued.

I hear you. After a few months on that med my resting heart rate drifted into the low 50s too, and I started noticing more fatigue. I kept a simple log—morning HR, how tired I felt, and whether I’d exercised. The numbers felt weird, but the fatigue was real, especially on hot days or after errands that wear me out.

I tried small tweaks: cut back on caffeine, drink more water, and give my body time to adjust. There were days I felt a bit steadier, but the number still looked strange to me and I’d get stairs fatigue after light activity.

Could it be the problem isn’t the pulse itself? I’ve wondered if the monitor or other stuff like sleep or iron levels are throwing off the readout. Is the real issue the low number or the fatigue that follows it?

One time I phoned the clinic when I saw around 52 and felt a bit lightheaded after a workout. They told me to monitor and check back with the doctor soon. It didn’t feel decisive, but I didn’t stop the med on my own.
