What should I do about statin-related muscle pain that's not obvious weakness?

I’ve been on a statin for about six months now, and while my cholesterol numbers have improved, I’ve been dealing with this persistent, dull ache in my thighs and calves. My doctor mentioned it could be a side effect of the medication, but I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced muscle pain that feels more like a deep soreness than actual weakness.

I’ve been there. After a few months on a statin I started getting a dull, deep ache in my thighs and calves. Not weakness, just a heavy soreness that stuck around even after stretching. I kept up light walks and added some gentle calf stretches, and tried to stay hydrated, but the pain would bounce back. The numbers looked better, so I didn’t want to quit right away, but it did make me doubt whether to push through. It seems worse after longer walks or more intense leg work, with no clear pattern.

Mine was more in the same area but I swore it was from overdoing hill workouts. I backed off, swapped some runs for brisk walks, and did nightly calf stretches. A few days with less stiffness, then back to the same cycle. It’s frustrating how inconsistent it feels.

I wonder if it could be something else entirely like sleep, dehydration, or tight shoes. I tried blaming outside stuff first, but then I still had days when it came back even with rest. It’s annoying not knowing if it’s the medicine or something else that’s been off this season.

One friend told me they tried a dose change with their clinician and the pain faded after a while, but it wasn’t guaranteed. Others switch to a different medicine and still manage to hit their lipid goals. It’s a personal tradeoff, I guess, and not a tidy answer.
