What should i do about TPM 2.0 on Windows 11 with an old CPU?
#1
I just tried to install a fresh copy of Windows 11 on my older desktop, and the installer is telling me my processor doesn't support TPM 2.0. I thought I had everything set up correctly in the BIOS, but it seems the CPU itself might be the issue, which is a real roadblock. I'm not sure what my options are now, short of buying new hardware.

Yeah, that TPM 2.0 message is real. If your CPU doesn't support it, Windows 11 won't install even with a bios toggle.

I looked into it and found some older CPUs just can't do the security module 2.0 even if there's a header. You can sometimes add a module on a supported motherboard, but not all boards accept it.

My workaround was to roll back to Windows 10 on the old box and hold off on upgrading. It felt cheaper and it still ran fine, plus you get security updates for a while.

Do you know your exact CPU model and motherboard TPM capabilities?
