What should I do if statins are causing leg muscle pain?
#1
I’ve been on a statin for about six months now, and while my cholesterol numbers look better, I’ve been dealing with this persistent, dull ache in my legs, especially my calves, when I’m just sitting or lying down. It’s not the intense muscle cramping I read about, just a constant soreness that makes it hard to relax. Has anyone else experienced this kind of muscle discomfort from their medication?

I've been there too. After about six months on the medicine I started waking with a dull ache in my calves when I sit for a while. Not the violent muscle cramping you read about, just this constant heaviness that makes it hard to settle in. I mentioned it to my doctor during a routine visit, and we ran some basic tests and reviewed medications. It didn’t immediately go away, but a few tweaks helped: I started taking short, gentle walks after meals, and I make a point to stand up and move every 20 to 30 minutes when I’m at my desk. It’s still there some days, but it feels more manageable. I’ve heard of others having this and it being tied to the medicine, but I never got a clean answer.

Mine came and went. I found that standing up and stretching every half hour during the workday cut the numbish ache by a decent amount.

I keep wondering if I’m making a bigger deal out of it. It started after I got serious about quitting smoking and maybe being less active that week. I did nothing dramatic, just noticed it when I sat on the couch. Sometimes it feels like the body is whispering something else. I swapped shoes, tried a sore-foot brace, not a clear win.

Could this really be the problem, or is it something else entirely?
