I just got the new Galaxy Z Flip 6, and I’m already noticing the hinge feels a bit gritty when I open it, like there’s a tiny bit of resistance halfway through. Has anyone else with a recent folding phone run into this kind of physical issue so soon? I’m wondering if it’s just my unit or something that breaks in over time.

Yeah, I had something like that with a new folding phone last year. The hinge in the middle felt gritty for a few days, and it loosened only a bit after a week. I wasn’t sure if it was normal break-in or a defect.

Mine didn’t do that, but I got lucky maybe. Out of the box it felt fine, and after a couple hundred cycles it stayed smooth. Not a guarantee though.

I did a quick check by slowly easing the hinge through its range while the phone was resting on a soft cloth. It did sound a bit gritty at first, then it quieted down. Could be tolerances, could be dust, not sure.

Did you try it in a store or compare with another unit, to see if this is a batch issue?
