What should I do if the head-up display distracts me while driving?
#1
I just got a new car with a fancy head-up display, but I find myself constantly turning it off. The speed and navigation arrows projected on the windshield just feel distracting, like there’s too much information floating in my field of view while I’m trying to focus on the road. Does anyone else feel this way, or did it just take you some time to get used to it?

Yep, I felt the same a few weeks in. At first it kept my eyes shifting, like a video game HUD.

For me it took a month or so, then I learned to glance less and let the car handle it.

I dimmed the brightness and limited what it showed to speed; still found myself glancing, so I tried to ignore it most trips.

I'm not sure if I got used to it or if I'm just ignoring it now.

Do you think it's actually the clutter or the sudden focus shift that trips you up?

I drifted into thinking about it in the showroom, then realized maybe I overindexed on screens; on the highway I mostly ignore it and drive.

I pulled over and turned it off mid ride and felt a little better, but then I worried about missing arrows.
