What should i do to reduce grocery costs with meal planning?
#1
My wife and I sat down with our budget last night and realized our grocery spending is up another 15% this month, even though we're buying the same things. I'm starting to wonder if we need to completely rethink our approach to meal planning, because just switching brands isn't making a dent anymore.

That sounds familiar. We did something similar last month and blinked at the receipts when nothing on the list changed. I started keeping a rough note of prices for a week and comparing to the month before. Small jumps in a few items added up to a noticeable bump. It made me stop assuming that switching brands would fix it.

We tried swapping to store brands for the basics, and still saw a bump. It felt like the same groceries, but the total kept climbing. The coupons we used didn't erase it, and by mid month the 'seen savings' stopped feeling real.

Do you think the issue is really the prices or is there something else driving the higher total, like more meals out or bigger portions we're not accounting for?

Sometimes I drift and think maybe meal planning is the obsession here when the real thing is we just need less variety and more leftovers. I tried planning a week with two big dinners and a couple of simple lunches, but I didn’t commit to it and the week spiraled. It’s frustrating to chase a fix that keeps moving.
