What should i do with sentimental t-shirts in a capsule wardrobe?
#1
I’ve been trying to reduce my wardrobe to just a few versatile pieces, but I’m stuck on what to do with a small collection of sentimental t-shirts from past events. They don’t fit my current style or get worn, yet letting them go feels like I’m discarding the memories themselves. Has anyone else dealt with this specific kind of attachment?

I get the pull. I kept a few shirts I still like to wear and took photos of the rest, then tucked those pics in a little album. The rest I donated or used to make a small memory quilt panel. Memories stay even when the fabric goes.

Honestly, I tried to purge and felt weird guilt about the memories. I ended up keeping one 'event' shirt per year in a box, but the rest I cut into cleaning rags and gave away. It helped a little, but some days the attic still feels crowded.

Is the real issue the urge to simplify or actually the fear of letting go of what happened?

Another approach was to repurpose into something usable like a cushion cover or a tote before giving away the rest. It slowed the decision and kept the memory in a tangible form without the shirt taking up space. It felt more doable after I stopped thinking all or nothing.
