What should i know about viral vs bacterial sinus infections and antibiotics?
#1
I’m trying to understand the difference between a viral and bacterial sinus infection because my doctor said mine is likely viral, but after a week my face still hurts and the pressure is worse. I’m worried it might have turned into a bacterial one, but I don’t want to push for antibiotics if they aren’t needed.

I've been there a similar week of face pressure and the doctor said it was likely viral. I worried it could be turning into something else and the pain stayed stubborn for days. It did start to ease after a while but I can't be sure if that was the virus or just time

Most sinus infections are viral and antibiotics often aren’t needed. If things stay the same or worsen after about a week or two or you get a high fever or eye swelling that is when doctors think about bacteria. But I am not a doctor.

I tried saline rinses and steam and a humidifier and rested. No antibiotics given. I felt a bit lighter after a few days but the pain lingered.

Do you think this is truly the sinus or could it be something else like a tooth issue and that is why it keeps hurting?

If it does not improve after a week I would push for a careful check and ask about signs that antibiotics might help rather than assuming.

I know the worry of wanting a quick fix but the idea of not overusing antibiotics stuck with me. I am not sure if I got clear guidance though.

One moment I drifted to a different thought about hydration and air moisture and I came back to the face pain not sure if that helped.
