What should I look for in a wireless gaming mouse to avoid lag?

I’m trying to decide if I should upgrade my mouse to a wireless model, but I’m worried about the sensor performance compared to my old wired one. I’ve heard modern ones are good, but I still notice a tiny bit of lag in fast-paced shooters that makes me second-guess the switch.

I switched to wireless a year ago. In real games it felt the same as wired most of the time, and the battery has held up. I did notice a tiny hiccup on a cheap mat during a frantic moment, but it wasn’t a deal breaker.

First week with wireless I felt a tiny lag during fast flicks. I tested with an aim trainer and a quick reflex map and the difference bothered me. After stepping up to a high end wireless with 1000Hz polling and a solid sensor, the lag slowly disappeared for me.

I’ve stuck with wireless for months now and honestly I barely notice a difference. The sensor tracks smoothly on my usual cloth mat, and I don’t have to tether the desk to my PC anymore.

Do you think the lag is the real problem or could it be something else like monitor input lag or DPI steps?

I drifted into wireless for the freedom, but I keep a cheap wired backup just in case the battery dies mid-game. Battery life has been fine, but there’s always that paranoia for a few seconds when you hear the warning beep.

I remember a tester buddy who claimed it felt off until he changed to a different USB port and updated firmware. Not sure if that’s a myth, but he swore by checking ports and firmware first.
